To hunt grouse and woodcock with pointers is on the bucket list of the true sporstman and on Lewis that dream is reality. To be on the moors with English pointers , watching the dogs drawning onto a grouse and pointing just before being given the command to flush is one of a true memorable sporting moment. .

Limited Red Deer stalking is run on the estates .Altought slightly smaller on average than their mainland cousins, the island population of Red Deer has remained pure due to no other species of Deer having been introduced to the islands .

Salmon and trout Fishing

Blackwater River ,Garynahine

The fishing includes almost the whole of the Lewis Blackwater river system, and the salmon fishing has improved dramatically during the last fifteen years. The river is at its best after rain but provided there is a wind it can fished at any height. In periods of low water terrific numbers of fish can build up in the sea pool and sport can be hectic. Loch fishing for salmon is also available and there are also over 40 trout lochs on the estate.

Barvas Estate

There are over three entire river systems on the estate, stretching from source to mouth, namely the Barvas River, the Arnol River and loch Urrahag. Each system includes small tributaries an lochans before flowing into the main body of the river or larger lochs

The Legendary mac Nab Challenge

The modern Macnab Challenge: bagging a salmon, stag and brace of grouse within one day between dawn and dusk, is derived from Buchan’s tale. It is a thrilling test of sporting skill (with a dash of luck thrown in).
